Buried and Forgotten: A Report from the Parkland Institute

In advance of the April 28th Day of Mourning for workers killed and injured on the job, Parkland Institute today released its latest report, Buried and Forgotten: Newspaper Coverage of Workplace Injury and Death in Alberta, co-authored by Athabasca University labour relations professors Jason Foster and Bob Barnetson. The report analyzes five years of newspaper reporting in Alberta and finds that "newspaper articles profoundly misrepresent who gets injured and how they get injured," almost entirely ignoring women's experiences of workplace injury and relying overwhelmingly on government and employer sources for information.
